I beg to differ ! Bảo ơi !
Không biết ai là người đã dịch hai chữ “áo dài” thành Vietnamese “long dress” ! Có lẽ là hơi không đúng rồi ! Áo thì đúng là “upper body article of clothing” ; còn dress tiếng Anh là “full body one piece garment”. “Áo dài” phải mặc với “quần dài”, nên không phải là “one piece garment” đâu.
Cái “xường-xám” (trường-xiêm) của người hoa thì có thể gọi là Chinese long dress được . Còn “áo dài” mà gọi là “long dress” hơi kỳ-kỳ ; có lẽ nên gọi là Vietnames tunic thì đỡ hơn (nhưng cũng không đúng lắm). Chẳng riêng gì Việt-Nam mới có áo dài . Đàn-bà miền Nam Ấn-Độ cũng mặc một thứ “áo dài” có hài tà trước sau, và có mặc quần (loose fitting pantaloon) dưới chiếc “áo dài” này . Chỉ khác là hai tà áo của họ ngắn hơn .
